ABOUT US

St John’s Chatham is on an exciting journey of regeneration and new life. Since April 2021 the St John’s Chatham building has open for worship and to serve our local community, having previously been closed for around 25 years.

Since reopening we’ve been amazed by the opportunities that are continuing to emerge to support and bless those around us and we look forward to increasing links and friendships with those in our community and further afield.

The process of reopening and returning to the building  began back in 2017 when a small team from another local church was released to form the beginnings of a new congregation. Unfortunately at that time the state of the building did not allow for its use for public events or worship and so the relaunch team made use of other meeting spaces in the locality (including the Tap n Tin Nightclub). Since then the building has undergone a significant amount of work allowing for its temporary use between April 2021 and August 2023.

In the summer of 2023 the St John’s Chatham community moved out of the building in preparation for major restoration work scheduled to finish in the summer of 2025. During this time we have continued to gather at Emmaus Christian Centre on Clover Street, enjoying united worship with the URC congregation on Sunday mornings. We are grateful to the Emmaus Christian Centre for opening their building and hearts to us during this time.

We are passionate about seeing lives and communities transformed by the love of God, drawn into relationship with Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We are committed to growing in love for God, for one another and for our wider community. We love Chatham and are privileged to be part of its holistic regeneration.

St John’s Chatham is part of the Church of England within the Diocese of Rochester and is very pleased to be part of Churches Together in Medway, working closely with other Christians and like-minded organisations locally and nationally.
