Safeguarding

Everyone has a responsibility to safeguard children, young people and adults who may be at risk of abuse. If you have a concern about the immediate safety of a child then you should talk dial 999.

We are committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults, and recognise the importance of following good safeguarding procedures. At our PCC meeting on 5th June 2019 and annually since then, we reviewed our safeguarding procedures and have adopted the Church of England’s “Promoting a Safer Church” Safeguarding Policy, copies of which are available online at: www.rochester.anglican.org/safeguarding/for-parishes

Please ask if you would like a physical copy.

If you are looking for support as a victim or survivor of abuse then do start by looking at the relevant Rochester Diocesan page.

Parish Safeguarding Officer | Ezra Miles

Ezra took up the role of Parish Safeguarding Office in April 2025. He comes into the role with lots of valuable experience of working closely with people within the churches he has been part of and also through a Christian-led youth home. This very important voluntary role will help to ensure that we continue to develop a safe and healthy church culture where the rights, freedoms and voices of all (particularly the most vulnerable) are upheld and celebrated.

If you need to speak to Ezra about anything safeguarding related please email him (safeguarding@stjohnschatham.co.uk) speak to him at church or make an appointment to speak to him by calling the office mobile (07595 075958).
